New blog page - www.dusty-suitcase.org

Moving to new page

This is just to let the few of you that hadn't seen it already know that I am doing all of my entries on www.dusty-suitcase.org

This is a webpage that Christy and I are running to try and document our life in the State Department as we start wandering about the globe.  We head to Buenos Aires in February so until then, it will be Spanish training followed by Con-Gen (consular training, where you learn cool things like "no visas for Nazis unless they are over 100 years old).

Dan was going to create a link on here but it seems to have disappeared so stop by my page and say hey.

Weddings and Humor

[Test
Plans are starting for my wedding. It looks like it will be on March 18th of 2005. We bumped up the date to take advantage of our spring break and give us a little breathing room this summer in case we decide to move elsewhere. We are planning on having a small ceremony followed by a bigger reception. For those of you coming in from out of town, the hotels will be located right next to downtown and within stumbling distance of the reception hall.

When we were talking to the wedding planner (never thought those words would come out of my mouth) he mentioned an avant-garde wedding he had done for some artists the month before. Apparently they had a monkey in a ballerina outfit and diapers working the buffetline alongside a clown making balloon animals. Christy has already shot down the option of having any simian workers at our wedding.

In the humor arena, I highly recommend Jon Stewart's new book: America: A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction.

Very good stuff. Much better than the current textbook I am teaching with.

Returning Home

[Test
Well, things are all set for heading back to Chapel Hill for the first time since I left it for parts unknown five years ago (ok, ok, 4 and a half years and it was to Nevada but still....) I have now cycled through 8 employers, 5 moves through 3 states, and a major career change. It will be good to see the ol' Chapel Thrill but from what I have heard, I probably won't recognize it. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Matt's wedding (BTW-if you are looking to save money on the tux, they will rent it to you without the pants which works out nicely for me and my current protest against the pantaloons industry). I will probably be rolling into town around the 15th and my girlfriend is flying in on the 17th. I will probably head out on the 22nd. Being a teacher and having the summers off rules! I am not sure what the plans are for Matt's bachelor party but I can provide the crisco, goat and ice tongs.
