And We're Back!

I'm posting, so it must be summer.

[Ramblings

I’m taking this summer to get healthier.  I’m consuming more fruit than I have in the last five years combined.  I also joined Peak Fitness for the summer.  I used to work out regularly back in 2002 before I became a teacher.  After that, I found myself too exhausted to do anything except maybe drink a beer.  I’ve just gotten over my two week soreness campaign, and am looking into being a regular until school starts back.  Currently I am going three times a week, and that’s a nice schedule to keep up.  I have the option of continuing my membership for $25 a month after the summer, but who knows if I will want to use it anymore.

I’m running too.  Last summer Kristin convinced me that we should buy an elliptical machine.  I thought it would be something that she would use maybe twice and then be done, but she’s been rather tenacious with it, especially the past couple months.  This has inspired me to get on it as well (not at the same time).  The elliptical machine is a lot easier on the old knees, so I can push myself without having my knees fall off.  Since school has been out, I have run for at least thirty minutes no fewer than 13 times.  I’m hoping to keep it up.

Pleased with my efforts, I want to give myself something to work towards.  I think it would be nice to run a 5K.  I’ve done these before, but not in this century.  In fact, I thought it would be nice to get a group of my idiot friends to run it with me.  We could all run one together in the fall (this is the next available time due to the heat), and then maybe cook-out or drink some beer together.  That seems like a blast.  Erin told me there’s a transplant 5K sometime in September.  That might work.  And we could run, walk, or run/walk our way to the finish line.  So what do you say?  Men and women – will anyone join me?

I don't know...5000 miles is a long way. I don't think I could reliably do more than about 3.10685596 miles. However if you ever want me to run that far with you, I'm in.

I'll run a 5K with you. Dan & Bobby can't beat us at tennis, and they surely can't outrun us.

If you want to add bike riding to your regimen, the MS Society hast their 30, 75 and 100 mile tour in September too.
