Top Movies of 2007

Since most of you have babies, you can hear about movies I've seen.

With the New Year upon us, I thought I’d give you my favorite ten movies of 2007.  These are presented to you based on my criterion, which is simply, did I enjoy it?  They go in order, leaving my favorite movie at the end, for extra suspense and drama!  I didn’t see all the movies of 2007, so these are the ones I liked.  Maybe you’ll find a suggestion or something that you hated.  Peace.

10) 28 Weeks Later

Sequel to 28 Days Later, which rocked.  I liked it because it made me think about the first movie a lot.  It’s not going to win any awards, but who cares?  People being infected with rage and turning into zombies which need to be killed by the US army is a story that can’t be told too many times.  I can wait for 28 Years Later!

9) Zodiac

Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr team up to try to catch a serial killer in 1970s San Francisco.  It’s based on a true story, and hopefully I’m not ruining your day by telling that they don’t catch the bad guy.  I feel like I really got a chance to get to know these characters (a three hour movie can do this with time for other things like a story too).

8) Live Free or Die Hard

Sequel, so it’s not going to be that good, except it kicks ASS!  Man, that woman just didn’t want to die.  She was tougher than that woman terminator.  I bet you didn’t know that if you’re in a jam and really need it, a car might be launched into a helecopter.

7) Sicko
Michael Moore’s movie about our nation’s healthcare problems has helped make universal healthcare important during this election cycle.  Some of the stories will rip your heart out.  He manipulates as good as any.  How do we still have people in this country without health insurance?

6) The Simpsons Movie

I haven’t watched the Simpsons in years – it’s OK, but definitely isn’t appointment televison.  But the movie was a lot of fun – maybe because I’ve had a significant break from them.  Oh yeah, and I got to see Bart’s penis!  Ha!

5) Charlie Wilson’s War

Tom Hanks doesn’t make sucky movies…anymore.  I remember Turner and Hooch.  What a charming political character. The Cold War is a fascinating topic.  This movie made me want to know more about the Soviet’s war in Afghanistan. And I’m proud to say, now I still don’t know a ton about it.  Sigh.  I got busy and stuff.

4) The Bourne Ultimatum
Sequel, so it’s not going to be that good, except it kicks ASS!  Man, that guy just didn’t want to die.  Matt Damon finally learns a little more of his story, and then he kills people.  Yeah!  They were bad people, don’t worry.

3) Rocket Science
A stuttering kid joins a high school debate team to get a girl.  There are overachievers, losers, and lust.  See, there’s a little something for everyone.  It makes you feel good.  It reminds you that there is more than one path to happiness.

2) In the Valley of Elah
Tommy Lee Jones, who my mom confuses with Tommy Lee, is investigating his son going AWOL.  It’s an interesting commentary on war and what it accomplishes.  This one sticks with you for a while.  I had it lower on my list, but as I remembered this story, I rediscovered its brilliance.

1) Juno
High schooler gets pregnant and the hilarity ensues.  It is very smartly written, and both funny and sweet.  This is the most quotable movie I’ve seen this year.  You never know where it’s going, even though the story is quite simple.  This is one doodle that can't be un-did, homeskillet.

Re: Top Movies of 2007
You just added another voice to the "see Juno" choir. Hopefully soon. However I can't help but see the irony of Ed putting a pro-Baby movie #1.

For the hell of it : Harper's Top 12 with very quick comments (why 12? I've only seen 12 2008 movies this year figure I'd list them all)

12. Evan Almighty - I was on a plane.

11. Vacancy - Bad movie night. It was, but at lesat it wasn't boring.

10. Disturbia - Bad movie night. It's got Shia, hence it sneaks past Vacancy.

9. 300 - I'd put it at #11 except it has re-watchability...if you fast foward to the boobies and blood parts and mute the TV.

8. Waitress - 1/2 charming, 1/2 bothersome.

7. Spiderman 3 - Was fine for what it was but signficantly less entertaining and more bloated than the first two.

6. Reno 911 - An extended version of the TV show and I like the TV show. Plus Paul Rudd with a Cuban accent.

5. Simpsons Movie - What I said above - except without Paul Rudd.

4. Knocked Up - It's funny.

3. Live Free or Die Hard - If you enjoy mindless violence there's hardly a better way to spend an hour and a half.

2. Shoot 'Em up - This, however, is one of them, if you can really take the mindless part seriously.

1. No Country for Old Men - see? I like good movies.
